MATERIALS

We offer a wide variety of materials to ensure your grips are truly one of a kind.

Standard Wood Options

  • Mesquite
  • American Holly
  • Walnut
  • Laminated wood (multiple colors)

In addition, we can source many domestic and imported hardwoods upon request. See our Gallery.

Customer-Supplied Materials

Many Custom Orders include customer-provided wood.

For example, we have crafted grips from:

  • Family farm or ranch trees
  • Lumber saved by parents or grandparents
  • Historic reclaimed wood, including, wood flooring material used in a section of the “911 Museum”, and wood that was sourced from “The Alamo” complex in San Antonio, Texas. If you would like to use your own material, contact us to confirm feasibility before shipping.

Alternative Materials

Beyond wood, Custom Orders may include:

  • Bone
  • Horn
  • Antler
  • Ivory
  • Select polymers such as Resin Ivory

However, availability varies. Some materials have size limits, so not all grip models qualify.

Please note: We do not manufacture metal grips.

*We do not make metal grips.*

CHECKERING

We offer checkering and textures on most models of our wood grips. We offer standard diamond style checkering, Spanish style checkering, and scroll texture on most models and materials. Our checkering is all laser engraved for precision and accuracy. Certain materials like our laminated wood, polymers, bone, horn, etc. may not engrave well with standard diamond-style checkering, but there are typically some options available.

Light colored materials like Holly, Maple, bone, etc. will typically have a tan to brown tint in the engraved areas.

We try to stick with our standard checkering, textures, and profiles, but custom checkering, textures, and profiles can be created. These custom patterns take time to create and lay out for every model of grips, and will be charged by actual setup time, plus the run time.

CUSTOM ENGRAVING

We have custom engraved hundreds of handgun grips with everything from simple initials to full coverage engravings that included textures, graphics, and text. We engrave organization and business logos, brands, badges, military and law enforcement insignias, animals, etc. See our sample images.

You can email images and sketches of the engraving that you would like, along with requested locations, sizes, and descriptions at the following link. Preferred image formats are vector files, which can be resized without losing any detail. These include SVG and AI formats. Other formats include PNG and JPEG images, but the larger the original image is, the better the detail can be. Do not send us any logos or graphics that are copyrighted, unless you have full legal right to reproduce them. We may need to modify, resize, or relocate graphics or text, to work properly on the grip surface. Any changes will be communicated to the customer, and a draft of the proposed layout will be emailed to the customer for approval, before any engraving on the actual grips has started.

Custom engraving takes time to set up and highly detailed artwork can even take hours to layout, modify, and run test samples. Custom engraving starts at $40.00 for something as simple as initials or similar items. If your custom engraving includes initials or text, please let us know what style of font you would prefer. (We can use any style of font available in MS Word) If you request a font that requires the purchase of a font package, that charge will be added on. Let us know the location and approximate size of the font that you want on your grips.

We can add color fill to engraved grips to make the engraving lines stand out, or to reproduce a multicolored image where needed. (Charges vary)

Note: Not all materials work well with engraving. Dark materials can hide engraved lines and engravings with fine detail do not show up well on highly figured grain woods, or woods with very open grains.

READY TO ORDER YOUR PISTOL GRIPS?

Whether you want a more comfortable grip, to honor your family’s legacy, showcase your organization, or simply stand out at the range, Texas Grips can make it happen. Check out our pistol grips in stock, and let’s get you a grip that is as unique as you.

MEDALLIONS & INLAYS

We typically stock medallions for Ruger, Smith & Wesson, & Colt Firearms in a couple of different styles. Though we do not make metal inlays, we can inlay those in our grips. We have inlayed lapel pins, tie-tacks, mini badges, and similar items. We are experienced in inlaying “Hand of God” crosses and “Man with No Name” rattle snake metal emblems in revolver grips. Inlaying metal pins and emblems, especially ones with highly figured profiles, require a lot of detailed hand fitting, so please be patient with us.

CUSTOM SHAPING

All our grips are precision CNC cut and surface profiled. We offer limited models of grips in thin / gunfighter profiles as seen on this website. We can modify other grip shapes in thinner and thicker profiles, as well as palm swells, thumb reliefs, and even custom shaping, but that all requires custom hand shaping, and depends on our current schedule.

GRIP MODELS

All current grip models are shown on the website, but we are continually developing new patterns and taking customer requests, but please understand that for economic reasons, we have to prioritize new models by popularity. If you want grips made for an old model gun, and not replicated by any current manufacturers, we will not be able to help you out any time soon.
