frequently asked questions

GRIP

The grips shown on this website are what we currently have in production. We are adding new models of grips all the time, and we are always interested in knowing what our customers are looking for, so please ask. We may already have it on our list of grips to add or almost ready to release. We currently have more than a years worth of new models to work on as time becomes available.

You do not need to send your gun. Virtually all of the pistol models shown on this site will accept the grips directly from our stock, without any modifications. The exception to this rule is the Colt Single action grips which require custom fitting to each grip frame. If fitting is required for Colt Single Action grips, you would need to remove the grip frame and trigger guard only and ship those to us for fitting. I do not possess a FFL license, so do not attempt to send anything other than those two parts.

Grip screws and escutcheons are provided with all two panel revolver grips and the few semi auto grips that use a screw that secures the two panels together. We do not provide grip screws for semi auto pistols except with very few exceptions that will be noted on the product page. Please reuse your original grip screws. We occasionally have a few sets of standard and thin profile 1911 screw and bushing sets in stock. Please contact us for pricing.

GRIP MATERIAL

We show six basic materials for all of my grips. The laminated woods are dyed wood layers bonded together with high strength polymers, under high pressure. They are very durable and moisture resistant. We can make most of our grips out of almost any type of wood and many synthetic materials. We do not make G10 grips because the fiberglass is very hard on our router bits. We can make linen or canvas Micarta grips though. Custom materials can be viewed in our gallery. Grips made from custom materials will be scheduled with the next production run of that model. Please email us with custom grip material orders and we will provide time and cost estimates.

In many cases, we can use material that is provided by the customer. Wood blanks, blocks, and scales that are purchased from reputable suppliers can be mailed to us to make your grips. Log sections and random wood chunks can be used to create yourgrips, but will usually incur additional cost to mill it down to usable slabs. Log sections need to be fully cured with low moisture content and there is no guarantee regarding grain and inclusions.

All of our grips are finished with a multiple coats of catalyzed lacquer.  We can make oil finished and unfinished grips by request on our next production run of that model. Contact us about schedules.

ENGRAVING

We can engrave most any black and white line type image. Please view our gallery for examples. You can choose an image from our gallery or email an image of what you want. We cannot engrave copyrighted or trademarked images without written permission from the legal owner. We can engrave checkering, textures, military insignias, law enforcement badges, initials, & much more.

If you have an idea for a custom engraving, please email us at orders@texasgrips.com . Send us an image or describe your design idea. We can work up a draft for you with a layout on your desired style of grips.

We don’t typically charge for simple black and white line drawing images that I can copy, or for most images seen in our galleries. Other images that require more time and artwork will have a design fee. After your design idea or image is received, We will respond with any additional design cost. Small and blurry images will typically require additional artwork to prepare for engraving.

We prefer to engrave grips that we sell. We have engraved customers grips in the past, but the engraving fees are higher than our standard engraving fees.

If your model of grips are in stock, we can usually get them engraved and shipped within two to three weeks. Sometimes we can get them out sooner, depending on how they fall in my production schedule.
